ROBYN Byrne has made strong start to her opening PDC Women's Series campaign by making it as far as the last eight in Event 1.

The reigning WDF Europe Cup singles champion was in fine form as she won her first four games in style.

That even included a 4-1 victory over her fellow Irish WDF World Cup winner, Katie Sheldon, in which Byrne averaged an impressive 81.83 as she was pushed all the way by Sheldon.

That win came in the last 64, after Byrne had earlier completed a whitewash win over Kim Palstra of the Netherlands.

She continued her good form in the last 32 with a last leg win over Dutch player  Kyana Frauenfelder, before accounting for England's Angela Barrow 4-1 in the last 16.

Byrne's run came to an end in the quarter finals when she lost out to Lorraine Winstanley in a high quality contest in which both players averaged over 80.

Elsewhere, Donegal's Denise Cassidy made it to the last 32 before succumbing to Noa Lyn van Leuven.
