TYRONE man Mickey Mansell had a strong run to the last 16 of the PDC Players Championship 3 today, as Limerick's Michael Flynn picked up a win in his debut tournament.
Mansell was in fine form all day today, winning his first three games before succumbing to beaten finalist Jelle Klaasen in a last leg decider.
He began his day with a 6-4 victory of European Championship winner, Richie Edhouse, before marching past Canadian Jim Long 6-1 in the last 64.
That put him through to his board final against England's George Killington, with Mansell holding his nerve to win the final two legs of that match and advance with a 6-5 victory.
He was on the wrong end of the same scoreline in the last 16, however, as Dutchman Klaasen reeled off the last four legs to overcome a 5-2 deficit and deny Mansell a place in the quarter finals.

Meanwhile, Michael Flynn got a call up to this week's Players Championships due to his high ranking in the PDC Challenge Tour Order of Merit.
And he certainly didn't look out of place as he took down the mighty Michael Van Gerwen in his very first match.
Flynn posted an impressive 92.41 average as he raced into a 5-2 lead against MVG, eventually beating the three times world champion 6-4.
He looked to be on course for another win when he held an early 3-1 lead over Poland's Tytus Kanik in his next match, but was pegged back and eventually lost 6-4.
Elsewhere, Carlow's Steve Lennon made it to his board final but lost out in that to England's Justin Hood.
