WILLIE O'CONNOR has maintained his recent good form by qualifying for the PDC International Darts Open today.

The Limerick man claimed one of the 10 qualifying spots with four impressive wins that saw him average well over 90 in all games.

He began his day with a 6-3 win over Holland's Jitse van der Val, in which he averaged 96.73 , as the Magpie laid down a marker of what was to come.

He upped his average to 97.02 in a 6-2 win over Portugal's Jose de Sousa, and maintained his fine form with a 6-3 win over another Dutchman, Berry van Peer, in which he averaged 94.85.

That put O'Connor through to the crucial play-off match against Northern Ireland's Nathan Rafferty, and he prevailed again, this time in a 6-2 win and an average of 93.19.

It means O'Connor will be amongst those competing at the International Darts Open in Riesa, Germany, in early April.

There was no such luck for Tipperary's Dylan Slevin, however, as he fell 6-4 at the final hurdle to Poland's Krzysztof Ratajski.

Meath's Keane Barry also just missed out as he went out a round earlier to Dutchman Mario Vandenbogaerde.
