DONEGAL darts star Denise Cassidy says she can't wait to line out for Ireland at this years Six Nations and WDF World Cup after securing her spot on the team this weekend.

Her run to three semi-finals on the trot ensured Denise picked up the points she needed to finish third in the Ladies INDO rankings table.

It means she will now take her place in the Ireland team alongside the likes of World Cup winners Robyn Byrne, Katie Sheldon and Aoife McCormack.

Denise said: "I am absolutely because this weekend was the chance to make the Ireland team for the Six Nations and the World Cup and I did enough to make it."

However Denise, a winner at the Irish Grand Prix last year, admitted to Darts In Ireland that she was a little bit annoyed with herself at not making at least one final over the course of the Irish Darts Singles weekend at the Shearwater Hotel in Galway.

"I'm still disappointed that I didn't throw as well as I should have in the three semis," she said.

But she said it shows that the standards in the Ladies game is rising all the time, with teenage sensation Rebecca Allen winning two of the three Ladies events this weekend.

Denise said: "The standard is unbelievable and the young players are really coming on and it's only making the game better.

"For the likes of me, I've been playing the game a long time, but the young girls coming through now, they are so good."

Denise got a taste of what it's like playing for Ireland at the Island Internationals back in January, and said that it does come with its own unique pressure.

She said: "It's a brilliant experience playing for Ireland, but there's also that wee bit of pressure as you want to perform for your country.

"Thankfully [at the Island Internationals] I won all my matches.

"It's a great team we have for the Six Nations and the World Cup, I think it's very strong."

Meanwhile, Denise has also being competing at the PDC Women's Series throughout the year and has been performing well there, sitting in the top 30 out of 100 players worldwide.

While Ireland's top two Ladies players, Robyn Byrne and Katie Sheldon, played on the Women's Series this weekend, Denise decided to travel to Galway instead to ensure she got her spot on the Ireland team.

Denise said: "The standard at the Women's PDC Series is getting stronger all the time, so it's a great experience to play on that.

"Unfortunately it clashed with this INDO weekend, but I wanted to come here to keep up my ranking points and get to the World Cup and thankfully that has happened."
