New social darts club takes Flight in Dublin

THERE’S nothing like the buzz of hitting the winning throw in a game of darts.

And so it was when I pinged a double 18 to win my debut game of Demolition at Ireland’s new social darts club, Flight Club.

It has been causing a stir on Dublin’s social scene since opening its doors on Dawson Street just over a week ago.

Flight Club was packed to the rafters then and has been pulling in the punters ever since.

It’s not hard to see why as the interactive games of darts, cocktails and drinks, good food and even a DJ to keep everyone on their toes, looks to be a winning formula.

This week, Darts In Ireland paid a visit to Flight Club to see what all the fuss was about and there’s little doubt it is hitting the bullseye.

General manager Andrew Fisher said they are happy with how the unique new venue and its offering has been received so far.

delighted

Andrew said: “We were delighted with the launch night – I think half of Dublin was here.

“It was great to get everyone involved and show them what we are all about.

“The first week has been very good with lots of people popping in to have a look.”

The games at Flight Club are darts with a bit of a difference.

Groups who come in to play are given their own table, oche and board, which is linked up to interactive screens that feature a variety of games.

What follows is almost two hours of phone-free fun, as Flight Club has taken away the urge to whip out your handset for pictures with your pals by doing it all for you.

Along with group photos, cameras overhead track the flight of your darts as you throw them.

It means players can review video footage to see where you might need to improve or, who knows, maybe you could give the pros a run for their money?

The recaps are emailed the next day so you won’t have long to find out.

Andrew explained: “This is social darts, so it’s all about interactive social gaming. So whether you are familiar with darts or never even thrown a dart before you can and enjoy the games.

“It’s built on inclusivity and a little bit of competitive socialising. One of the positive feedbacks we’ve had is that you can go for a couple of hours here without needing your phone.

“One of the main things people like to do when they are on a night out is to get their phones out for photos, so we take that out of it.

“It means any winning shots you have, or any group photos, can all be done through the screens here.” Andrew has enjoyed watching customers as they get to see first hand what Flight Club is about.

He added: “I think it’s a wow experience. I think people didn’t know what to expect.

“One of the joys for me was seeing people come in and really get something that they didn’t expect. It’s great for atmosphere as you could be sitting here enjoying a pint with your friends, then someone throws a winning dart and there’s a big cheer.

“That makes people want to have a go themselves, so it’s been really positive.”
