Barry blasts into second round at PDC World Championships

Meath sharpshooper Keane Barry said he was "over the moon" to win his first round match at the PDC World Championships and set up a second round clash with 2021 champion Gerwyn Price.

The man known as Dynamite certainly lived up to his name as he blew Belgian Kim Huybrechts away in a superb 3-1 win.

It was made all the more impressive by the fact that Huybrechts had taken the opening set and looked to have Barry (22) under pressure with his constant heavy scoring.

Huybrechts hit no less than ten 180s but it didn't deter Barry from imposing himself on the match as he hit seven maximums of his own.

It was the Irishman's finishing that proved the difference as he had an impressive 50% on his doubles and took out three ton-plus checkouts.

After securing the second set in a last leg decider, Barry motored on by breaking Huybrechts in the third leg of the third set and never looked back from there.

He claimed that third set on his own throw in the next leg and then kept his nerve in the fourth set to see the game out 3-1, with cheers of "ole ole" coming from the Ally Pally crowd.

Speaking afterwards, Barry said he felt confident after winning that second set.

He said: "Everything felt good in that third and fourth set and everything I was throwing at was going in.

"There was a good pace to the game but I felt early on that I was throwing too fast, so I just slowed down a bit and played my own game."

Barry will return to the All Pally stage tomorrow for his second clash with Price.

It is the third time he has made it to the second round of the World Championships, where he will be hoping to break new ground and break Price's heart.
