THE Irish duo of Robyn Byrne and Katie Sheldon have put themselves in contention to qualify for finals night at Modus Super Series after picking up some crucial wins on their opening day.

Robyn has made a strong start to her Group B campaign by winning three of her four games to sit joint-top ahead of today's crucial final four matches.

The Dubliner recovered from losing her opening match to Laura Turner to win all her other games, which included an impressive 3-0 win over former world champion Lisa Ashton.

She also kept her nerve to win last leg deciders over Lorraine Winstanley and Kirsi  Viinikainen to leave her in a strong position to pick up one of the three qualifying spots from her group for finals night on Saturday.

Both of those last leg wins included maximums at crucial times from Byrne and were both completed in 15 darts, including a brilliant 106 checkout against Viinikainen.

In Group C, Katie Sheldon has kept her chances alive when she beat group leader Steph Clarke in her final match to leave her on 4 points after the opening day.

However she will need a strong run today to make up a four point gap on second placed Paige Pauling, with just two qualifying from her group.
