Heneghan and O'Shea pick up wins in opening PDC Challenge Tour event of the year

MAYO'S Conor Heneghan and Cork's John O'Shea impressed with some early wins in the opening event of this year's PDC Challenge Tour.

Reigning Irish National Singles ranking event winner Heneghan won his first three games before bowing out in the last 32 to Damien Mol of the Netherlands.

Heneghan started his day off with a victory over England's Adam Smith-Neale, before also overcoming the challenge of Samuel Price in a last leg decider in a high quality game that saw both players average over 90.

He then added another 90 plus average in beating Frankie Ansell in the last 32, while his fellow Mayo man Ultan McDyer also picked up some wins in his run to the last 64.

Meanwhile, O'Shea, who was the best of the Irish at PDC Q School last week, picked up where he left off at Milton Keynes by winning through three matches of his own.

He first beat David Davies of Wales 5-0 with a 91.56 average, before also securing a whitewash win over Germany's David Jeske.

O'Shea also picked up a last leg win over England's in the Jim Moston in the last 64 before losing out in the last 32 to Tom Sykes, as he averaged a stunning 104.96.
