Sunday Shoutout - Gerard McGlynn

Published on 2 February 2025 at 11:32

IT'S testament to the excellence of Donegal and Republic of Ireland darts player Gerard McGlynn that he is regularly name-checked by other top players as one of the team-mates or opponent they admire the most.

McGlynn enjoyed an exceptional year on the oche in 2024, winning the INDO inter-county singles and team titles with Donegal, the Six Nations singles with Ireland, and has been regularly at the business end of almost all INDO ranked events.

While his talent is well known within darting circles, his success over the past year was recognised on Friday night at the Donegal Sports Star Awards.

He was honoured with the Individual Darts Award, no mean feat given the quality of players in Donegal.

The Donegal team, themselves, were also given a Special Recognition Award for their record-breaking 13 INDO inter-county titles.

It's just reward for a player who has shown remarkable consistency at a high level over the past 12 to 18 months.

He was in sensational form in February of last year when he came through a loaded field to win the INDO inter-county singles crown.

If his performances in that were good, he bettered it when playing with Ireland when he won the Six Nations singles title - beating top players from Wales, England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Netherlands and his own Irish team-mates.

You get the sense that this won't be the last award that Gerard McGlynn will pick up in what has already been a glittering darts career.
