Caffrey calls for counties from North to be added to make full All Ireland championships

FORMER Irish international Owen Caffrey said he'd love to see the six counties in the North added to the INDO Inter-Counties to turn it into a full All Ireland championship.

With the Inter-Counties A championship kicking off in Killarney this weekend, Louth captain Caffrey reckons the addition of the Six Counties would make the competition even better than it is now.

And he insists it wouldn't interfere with how the Northern Ireland Darts Organisation (N.I.D.O.)  runs its own competitions and affairs.

He told Darts In Ireland: "Adding those six counties is something I would really like to see.

"It would be interesting to see how they would do in a full All Ireland championship as there is obviously a lot of talented players in the region. They would have some strong teams.

"It would be great if they could be invited to join our Inter-Counties championships. And it wouldn't affect how the NIDO run things as it would just be for this one All Ireland competition once a year."

Donegal head into this weekend's tournament as the reigning INDO Inter-Counties champions, but Caffrey reckons there will be plenty of counties, including his own Louth team, that can put it up to them this year.

He recently told Darts In Ireland: "I think our A team can be  a match for anyone on the day at the Inter-Counties, with no exceptions, but sometimes you just need a bit of luck to go with you too."
