DONEGAL darts stalwart Gerard McGlynn won the final INDO men's ranking event of the season with a superb win in the final of the Irish Trophy against Louth's Damien Grimes today.

McGlynn was in excellent form all day as he rounded off the year third in the INDO ranking table, which has gained him a spot on the Ireland teams for this year's Six Nations Cup in Wales and the  WDF World Cup in South Korea.

With his place on the Ireland team already secured prior to today's action, McGlynn still showed no signs of letting up as he stormed through the pack, winning his first two games without even dropping a leg.

That put him through to a last 16 clash with Offaly star Ronan McDonagh, which McGlynn won 6-3 while averaging an incredible 103.16.

He accounted for another rising young star in the last eight, when he beat Tipperary's Aidan O'Hara 6-2, before securing his spot in the final with another 6-2 victory, this time over Leitrim's Ray Mulvey.

That set up a final with Grimes, who had already won the Irish Classic on Friday night but was unable to make it a double against an on-fire McGlynn.

The Donegal man rarely missed a double as he stormed to a 6-1 victory with an 89.67 average.

McGlynn now joins Ireland's number one, Stephen Rosney, Waterford's Dean Finn and Paddy Quinn in the Ireland team for the World Cup, while Monaghan's Shane McGuirk has also made it into the five man squad for the Six Nations in June.

The Ireland ladies team for the World Cup will be made up of Dublin's Robyn Byrne and Katie Sheldon,  Kilkenny's Aoife McCormack and Donegal's  Denise Cassidy.

Meanwhile the Laois pair of Zoe Burke and Rachel Ivers will be on the Ireland Girls team, while Carlow's Jack Courtney and Tipperary's Aidan O'Hara make up the boys team for the World Cup, with Donegal's Shane Porter and Leitrim's Charlie McDermott for the WDF Europe Cup over the summer.
