Byrne's World Matchplay hopes still on course as she makes last four at PDC Women's Series 11

ROBYN Byrne remains well on course to qualify for the PDC World Matchplay in Blackpool after another strong showing at the Women's Series today.

The reigning Europe Cup singles champion made it to the last four of Event 11 to add another chunk of crucial ranking money that keeps her in the top five in the Matchplay Order of Merit.

With the top eight in that qualifying for the Matchplay in July, Byrne looks to be almost a certainty at this stage, with just one PDC Women's Series weekend left to go.

Her run in Event 11 today began with an impressive 4-1 win over Anne Dorrestijn of the Netherlands, before Byrne averaged a brilliant 91.09 in a whitewash win over England's Jade Gofford in the last 64.

That put Byrne through to her board final with Bianca Michalczyk of Germany, when she again recorded a 4-0 win.

Next up was a last 16 clash with Byrne's fellow Irish star, Katie Sheldon, which she came through 4-2 to set up a quarter final clash with England's Kirsty Hutchinson.

In a high class game, Byrne rattled off the final three legs on the spin to win 5-2 and advance to a semi-final with former world champion Lisa Ashton.

Byrne lost that game 5-0 as Ashton put on a masterclass, winning four of the five legs in 18 darts or under.

However the Dubliner will have been more than happy to add to her Matchplay total, as she sits just behind Ashton in the ranking table in fifth.
