Sunday Shoutout - Eddie Sweeney and Shay Feeney

IF we wanted to know how bright the future of Irish darts will be then we got another reminder of it today at the Junior Darts Corporation (JDC) Foundation Tour.

Of the two JDC events held in Coventry today, an Irish player was in the final of both of them.

Mayo youngster Eddie Sweeney capped off a superb debut JDC weekend for him by making it all the way to the final of Foundation Tour 7.

The talented 14-year-old, who had made it to the last 8 and last 16 of events 5 and 6 yesterday, went even better today with a number of brilliant performances.

Eddie dropped just four legs on his way to winning his first six games today to set up a final with England's Dillon Moran.

Although he lost that game 5-2, he will have been more than happy with his strong weekend's work, with signs of a lot more to come from this future star of the game.

Meanwhile, in the JDC Foundation Tour 8, it was the turn of Tipperary darts star Shay Feeney to shoot all the way through to the final.

Shay, just like Eddie, had also made it to the quarter finals of Event 5, but saved his best form for last today.

In the final event of the weekend, Shay picked up  wins over England's Oliver Mulcahy, Taylor James Harding, Owen Hooke and Kian Rogers to set up a quarter final clash with Northern Ireland's Jacob Todd.

Averaging an impressive 75.03 in that game, Shay kept his nerve to win a last leg decider, before succeeding in another tense battle against England's Kaleb Gascoyne in the semi-final.

He was unable to repeat the trick in the final against another English opponent, Sidney Lloyd, going down 5-2, but capping off a brilliant weekend for the Irish crew in Coventry nevertheless.
