Rosney and Byrne lead the race for Ireland World Cup teams

THIS weekend marks the last chance for players right across the country to make it onto the Ireland teams that will be competing at the WDF World Cup in South Korea in September.

Ireland men's captain Stephen Rosney remains on top of the INDO ranking table with three events to play at the Irish Darts Singles weekend in Galway.

The Offaly man has been in superb and consistent form all year, making it to the latter stages of the vast majority of the 11 ranking events held so far, while winning the Irish Masters along the way.

His position on the Ireland World Cup team looks to be pretty much secured as it is, alongside Waterford's Dean Finn, a winner of three ranking events already, and Donegal's Gerard McGlynn.

However a number of players will feel they are still in with a shout of taking the fourth and final spot, which is currently being held by Finn's Waterford team-mate Patrick Quinn.

He sits two ranking points ahead of Monaghan's Shane McGuirk - the reigning WDF world champion - while Kerry's Dale McCarthy sits just a further three points back.

But with 30 ranking points still to play for, a good run this weekend for the likes of Donegal pair Catha Boyle and Adrian Devine, Waterford's Eric Power, Leitrim's Ray Mulvey or Cork Ciaran Teehan could yet see them come into the reckoning.

In the ladies rankings table, Dublin's top two players Robyn Byrne and Katie Sheldon have all but secured their spots on the team, which will be aiming to retain their WDF World Cup crown.

The two are so far ahead in the rankings table that they will be giving Galway a miss this weekend to compete in the latest PDC Women's Series weekend.

That opens up opportunities for the chasing pack to secure their spots on the team, with Donegal's Denise Cassidy, currently ranked third in Ireland, looking to do just that.

Kilkenny star Aoife McCormack will also look to cement her spot in fourth place, but with three events to go this weekend, the likes of Galway's Caroline Breen, Cavan's Teresa King, Leitrim's Olive McIntyre and Dublin's Celine McDonald will still fancy their chances.

Meanwhile, in the youths sections, the race to make the two World Cup spots for the Boys and Girls teams is equally enthralling.

With two ranking events to go this weekend, Leitrim's Charlie McDermott remains in the top ranked spot, with Donegal's Shane Porter lying second.

However a good run for the likes of Carlow's Jack Courtney, Tipperary's Aidan O'Hara, Westmeath's James Morris or Donegal's Jack Porter could yet see them sneak into the top two spots.

In the Girls section, Zoe Burke of Laois looks to have secured her spot, while the race to join her remains tight between Rachel Ivers of Laois, Donegal's Aoife Porter and Tipperary's Christina Byrne.
