THE reigning men's and girl's INDO Inter Counties champions, Damien Grimes and Rebecca Allen, have both enjoyed more ranking title success by winning the Irish Classic on the opening night of the Irish Darts Singles weekend in Galway.

Louth man Grimes proved what he was all about back in late February when he was crowned All Ireland champion, and  has now gone back-to-back by winning the Irish Classic too.

Grimes was in imperious form in the Shearwater Hotel on Friday night as he came through a tough field to beat Ireland international captain Stephen Rosney in the final.

He began his night by topping his group by winning all three of his round robin games, before stepping it up a notch in the knockout stages.

Grimes averaged 83.51 as he beat Andrew Dempsey in the last 32, before recording an even more impressive 88.48 in his 6-2 victory over Daniele Di Tofano in his last 16 clash.

That put Grimes through to a quarter final with Waterford's Ireland international, Patrick Quinn, and he again came out on top with a 6-2 win.

In his semi-final with Dublin's Seon McKeon, Grimes had to hold his nerve to win a last leg decider to put him into the final against Offally man Rosney.

In a top class final, Grimes posted his best average of the night with 91.49 as he won 6-3 to land the title.

Meanwhile in the Ladies section, teenage sensation Rebecca Allen continued her recent good form by claiming another big ranking title.

The 16-year-old Carlow star topped her group with three wins, before overcoming Jennifer Doyle 3-2 in the quarter finals.

Rebecca then showed incredible nerve to come from 3-2 down to Ireland international, Denis Cassidy, to win her semi-final 4-3.

That put her through to a final with Irish world cup winner, Aoife McCormack, and again she came out on top 5-3 to win her first big Ladies ranking event.
