Jack boosts World Cup hopes with brilliant Boys Classic win

CARLOW darts star Jack Courtney has given his chances of making the Ireland Boy's team for the WDF World Cup in South Korea a big boost after winning the INDO Boys Classic in Galway today.

Timing can mean everything in darts and Jack may have just picked the best time yet to win his first INDO ranking event of the year.

It means he has jumped to the top of the INDO Boys rankings list with just one event to go tomorrow.

However with just eight points separating the top four, the two spots on the Boys World Cup team are still very much up for grabs.

Jack has certainly done his chances no harm at all as he came through the field today to win a hotly contested event.

The win is even more sweet  given Jack had a slow enough start to the day, losing two of his four group games.

However once he got into the knockout stages he proved unbeatable.

He began his run with a superb win in a tough match over Tipperary's Shay Feeney in the last 64, as he averaged 75.15 in a 3-0 win.

Further victories came over Eoin Roche and Donnacha Brady to set Courtney up with a quarter final clash against Meath's Charlie O'Connor, who had beaten him in the final of the INDO Boys Inter Counties singles last month.

Jack gained revenge this time with a brilliant 3-0 win, before he defeated Waterford's Jack Caulfield 4-2 in the semi-finals.

In the final, Jack came up against Shane Hogan and showed his class by rattling off four legs on the spin for a 4-0 win.

The ten ranking points gained means Jack now sits on 38 points, ahead of Leitrim's Charlie McDermott on 35, Donegal's Shane Porter on 31 and Westmeath's James Morris on 30.
